 WHAT IS BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)?

It is the rate at which the body consumes calories for maintaining basic body functions at rest. It varies with age, weight, height, gender, diet, exercise habits and sometimes due to certain medical conditions. Exercise increases BMR while it decreases with age. BMR is also largely affected by the muscle mass in the body. Higher the muscle mass higher is the BMR hence more calorie burn even at rest.
