|Happy People Happy Planet|
The connection between mental well-being and environmental degradation is not something that is often brought out from under the carpet but to think of it, the theory makes utmost sense. It is only when people are discontent with the current happenings in their life that they tend to over-consume; in turn delivering death blows to the planet. Unhappy people tend to over-eat, over-drink, consume drugs, antidepressants and stimulants, eventually disturbing the natural balance, polluting water bodies and poisoning fertile land with the toxic waste and toxic surplus.
Way out of this maze is to go natural: to live the way life is meant to be lived – in tune with nature. To feel better naturally, one must amply exercise, get enough sleep and give the mind, body and soul sufficient breaks from the daily stress and mundane routine. Developing a strong support system and having someone to talk to and listen to on a regular basis is a must too. The power of companionship cannot be underplayed here. Having a hobby and nurturing it can work as an additional stress reliever.
In spite of living a healthy balanced life, if you do have to depend on medication at some point, make sure to dispose of the surplus medicines carefully. Do remember to walk more amidst nature and smile more, this will heal you internally, thus healing the planet.
